The Centre for Theoretical Physics (CTP) has been founded by Prof. S. Khalil and established, at the BUE, in June 2006. The Centre is the 1st of its kind in the Egyptian Universities. It conducts research work, holding international activities (Workshops, Conferences, Schools for young researchers, supervising post graduate students and providing grants for both post graduate and post doctoral fellows).

The Hersh index for the Scientific publications of the Centre is now h = 17 (Feb. 2012).

The CTP has been chosen as the 1st Theoretical Physics Centre affiliated to the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy, in March 2011. It is now among six centers worldwide affiliated to the ICTP.

The CTP takes the responsibility of being the head quarters of the Egyptian Network for High Energy Physics (ENHEP).

On the 31st of January 2012, Prof. S.Khalil and his students moved to Zewail City ( Egypt) to establish a similar center there.
