In the talk, I review five observational manifestations of highly magnetized neutron stars and discuss the corresponding models. These topics include: soft gamma-ray repeaters and extragalactic magnetar flares, magnetars in binaries and ULXs, Fast radio bursts, Long-period radio transients, supernova and gamma-ray bursts partly powered by rotational energy release by highly magnetized neutron stars. I discuss how the understanding of the origin and evolution of the Galactic magnetars can explain properties of powerful extragalactic sources (and vice versa).
