The origin of matter has been an enigma since the inception of the standard model of particle physics. This is known as the flavour problem of the standard model. This problem is defined by the lack of any mechanism to explain the masses and mixing of the fermions in the standard model. Moreover, mystery of the origin of dark-matter goes beyond the birth of the standard model. In this talk, we discuss new approaches to address the origin of the flavour (ordinary matter) and dark-matter based on discrete symmetries.
